Safe Nights of Calvert County 

We will offer shelter for seven days from 7 pm to 7 am. We will provide a warm bed and three nutritious meals (breakfast, dinner, and a bag lunch) in a safe and welcoming environment.

Prepare food at home and bring it to the Vianney Room or help prepare the food in the kitchen. Breakfast is served at 6 am and dinner is served at 7:30 pm. You can also make bag lunches to be handed out after breakfast.

Food servers are asked to arrive an hour before breakfast and dinner are to be served. You will be asked to assist in getting the meal ready and serving the meal.

As a monitor, you get to know those we are serving. All volunteers who have contact with the guests receive training and sign a confidentiality agreement. One male and one female monitor are needed while guests are at the shelter. Monitors can serve a full shift from 
6:30 pm to 7 am, or a partial shift from 6:30 pm to 1:00 am or 12:30 am to 7 am. Monitors greet the guests, check their paperwork, and have them sign in. They receive their medication and log it in. The monitor ensures the guests follow the rules and connects with guests through conversation and hospitality. In case of emergency, the monitor calls 911 and notifies the coordinator.

Transport up to 12 cots and 12 bins with the guests' personal belongings to the next shelter church.

Donate supplies such as personalized toiletries, twin size sheets and blankets, towels, and washcloths. Monetary donations made payable to SJV are also appreciated.
